My Speech- Is the plastic problem really that bad

This term we had to write a speech and present it in front of the class, I chose the topic is the plastic problem that bad

Is the plastic problem that bad

What do you think of when you hear the word plastic. Problem causing or problem solving. Good or bad. Cheap, capable of being made into any shape plastic is something of a wonder material, it has proved so useful to humans that since the nineteen fifties we have produced an estimated eight point three metric tonnes of it. That's A lot of plastic, Is it really necessary to use that much there a lot of consequences that come with it. My name is Shyanne and today im going to convince you that the plastic problem is bad.

First of all plastic is reducing our marine life say for instance turtles. Jellyfish is part of a turtle's diet. When your plastic bags blow into the ocean turtle mistaken that for jellyfish and that becomes here next meal. Sadly when they eat plastic it makes them feel full when they're not and hey die of starvation.

As well as that the plastic is ending up in our stomachs. How? Well when plastic ends up in the ocean it breaks up into microplastics due to the sun and waves and fish eat plastic thinking it's plankton then we eat the fish in which may have microplastics or toxins inside of it.

Plastic is also contaminating the air we breathe.
Tiny pieces of plastic called microparticles from cosmetics and micro fibres from clothing get washed into the sewage system. While many others pass through treatment plants and end up in the sea, other particles get caught up in the sewage system and is used for fertilising farmers fields.

The world is now finally starting to wake up to the problem. Thirty countries have taken part in the UN’s clean seas campaign including the US, Brazil, Canada, France and so on. That's all big company things so you may think “I don't have to do anything just let them do all the work.” well you don't if you want to keep ruining the earth. You can start by doing simple things like recycling, using reusable bags cutting straws out of your life and taking a water bottle with you when you go places. Then when the plastic companies see that people aren't buying their products there is a chance of them

Plastic is cheap and in some way expensive but is it worth buying this and risking so many animals lives like our turtles. If not them, yourselves, you could be eating and breathing in this. You can help make a start to a happier future, by doing simple things such as recycling or using reusable bags. Are you going to help reduce our plastic problem or are you going to be the type of person who is going to ruin this world. Thank you for listening to my speech.

Zero Waste

                       Persuading people to reduce plastic

In class, we have been learning about ways to reduce waste. I created an infographic to persuade people to reduce their plastic. it was really interesting finding out how bad plastic waste is, killing our marine life and ending up in our food.
